Program Description

You are your brain. Neuroscience combines scientific knowledge in disciplines such as chemistry, biology and psychology to study how the brain and nervous system guide thoughts, dreams and behavior. Students who major in neuroscience become:

• medical professionals (doctors, physician assistants, physical therapists, etc.);
• researchers (in biotech, pharmaceutical, hospitals, etc.); and
• educators (teachers, professors, etc.).

They also excel in professions such as law and business, leveraging their critical thinking skills and the ability to synthesize diverse information.

Neuroscience Major

Neuroscience is the study of the structure and function of the nervous system and addresses questions spanning from the cellular and molecular level to cognition and behavior. This multidisciplinary major integrates courses in biology, chemistry, health sciences, and psychology. Track A (General) provides students more flexibility in electives. Track B (Graduate Preparation) prepares students to pursue graduate school in neuroscience and requires a research project under the supervision of a neuroscience program faculty member. Students should meet with a neuroscience advisor in their first year to make a four-year plan.

English language requirements: Test of English as a Foreign Language (minimum score of 550 PBT, 213 CBT, or 79 IBT), International English Language Testing System (minimum score of 6.5), Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (minimum score of 77), Pearson Test of English (minimum score of 53), ELS Language Center Program: Completion of Level 112.
