专业概况

Gain a strong foundation in social policy and how public policy is developed, implemented, reviewed and reformed. The degree teaches you the concepts central to the structure and functioning of a just society, and helps you develop the skills to research and analyse social issues and assess proposals for social change.

What you will study

First year

A typical first year may include:

• core topics introducing the criminal justice system, law in Australian society, critical reasoning, democracy and government, and issues in sociology
• a selection of topics in Aboriginal studies, economy and society, international and human rights, and culture and society.

Second year

A typical second year may include:

• core topics in criminal law, ethics and sociological research
• a selection of topics in policing, punishment and society, economy and society, international and human rights, and culture and society.

Third year

A typical third year may include:

• core topics in advanced research methods, legal theory, freedom, and freedom, law and society
• a further selection of topics in policing, punishment and society, economy and society, international and human rights, and culture and society.

Your career

This course aims to equip you in seeking employment in a range of public and private sector organisations, which demand a combination of legal, philosophical and social science skills, and knowledge of the relationships between justice, law and society.

Graduates may find employment in such areas as correctional services, courts services, court system and justice administration, crime prevention, community agencies, equal opportunity, legal industry, police services, policy development, research, trade unions, and workers’ compensation, among others.
