COURSE OVERVIEW

Computing impacts almost every aspect of modern life. The digital revolution has had a profound influence across the world and continues to redefine how we live, learn and work.

A Computer degree from Swansea University can help you find your place in an ever-shifting technological landscape. Aimed at the specific needs of advanced software development, this course is ideal if you are committed to a career in software development.

Over the course of the degree you will learn to identify the correct solutions to problems and measure their efficiency.

The MEng will distinguish you as a committed and knowledgeable computing expert.

COMPUTING EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

We offer CV workshop and you will have access to our Employment Zone, which advertises work placements, part time vacancies and graduate jobs. We have dedicated staff who will always be on hand to provide employability support, throughout your studies.

We hold an annual ‘Project Fair’, giving students the chance to display their third year projects to leading Industry experts. Companies such as Google often visit our students to give lectures on ‘how to get a job with tech giants’.

We take Employability seriously and you will leave Swansea University with much more than a degree, gaining invaluable life skills and experiences on your journey.

Professional Body Accreditation

The MEng in Computing is accredited by the British Computer Society, and allows graduates to join immediately as professional members. In addition, the MEng in Computing is accredited for Chartered Engineer (CEng) status by the British Computer Society. This means after a few years of industrial experience, you can apply to become a Chartered Engineer. To do the same with a BSc degree you would need to study for the full-time equivalent of one year (typically actually undertaken part-time) after your degree.

MEng Computing with a year in industry

Our Year in industry degrees incorporate an industrial placement during your third year of study. You will apply for your placement at a company of your choice, with support from our Employability team, who will be with you every step of the way. You will gain invaluable Industry experience while working with business professionals in the area of your choice. If you want a successful career in the IT sector then our Year in industry will help you gain experience on your route into your chosen profession.

Although securing a placement is the responsibility of the student, we work with a number of organisations who provide a range of placement opportunities. If you are unable to secure a placement by the end of the second year of your studies you will transfer onto the equivalent degree programme.
