专业概况

Students who choose international relations are global thinkers. They see civil war, forced migration, human trafficking, terrorism, human rights violations, environmental threats and fragile peacekeeping efforts around the world and want to work toward their solutions. They seek answers to hard questions: Why are some countries developed but others are not? Why do states go to war? What causes internal armed conflicts? How do societies rebuild after war?

Their curiosity and desire for solutions leads them to work in government agencies such as the U.S. State Department, the United Nations and other intergovernmental organizations as well as nongovernmental organizations such as the Red Cross, Green Peace International, and other public and nonprofit organizations.

International relations is also an excellent choice for those transitioning from the military to civilian careers.

An international relations major consists of 33 hours. A minimum of 15 hours of coursework must be at the 300 level or above. Students should enroll in PSC 150 as freshmen and PSC 280 as sophomores. Internships are available but not required for this major.
